Conversion Offering
Davis Aviation offers engine upgrades for Cessna 206 models from serial #0001 through U206G (excluding U206H), replacing the IO-520 A or F with a 300 HP IO-550 F engine. This upgrade includes various propeller options, though early 206 models may need additional modifications.
Known as the “Bonaire 550,” this conversion boosts performance with shorter takeoff rolls, faster climbs, and improved cruise speeds—continuing where Cessna left off in the 1980s. Many older propellers are obsolete, making this upgrade a cost-effective solution.
Propeller Options:
- Takeoff/Climb: Hartzell Top Prop and McCauley Black Mac
- Cruise: Hartzell Scimitar
- Balanced Performance: Hartzell 3-blade Super Scimitar (82”)
- Lightweight Option: MT Composite Propeller (82”, 26 lbs lighter)
Larger McCauley props (above 82”) offer better takeoff performance but limited cruise gains. If you’ve upgraded your propeller, provide the model number, and we’ll confirm compatibility with our IO-550 STC.
Our propeller kit includes a new propeller, spinner assembly, tachometer, MP/FF gauge, silicone baffling, shock mounts, standard hoses (firesleeving available), hardware, placards, and STC paperwork. A partial kit without the propeller and spinner is available if you already have a compatible propeller.
We also offer a propeller-only option now, with the IO-550 engine upgrade available later—allowing you to spread the conversion cost over time.
IO-550 Conversion Improvements
- 400 inch lbs more torque over the IO-520 A or F engine/15% More Horsepower at Cruise.
- Quieter operation: the noise level at 2700 RPM is greatly reduced with the 80 or 82 inch propellers.
- 10-20 MPH additional cruise speed improvement depending on propeller choice.
- 10%-20% better rate of climb at gross Continuous 300HP without limitations.
- Short field take-off 10%-20% less at full gross weight.
- Cost difference is normally offset by the added value to the plane.
