Conversion Offering
Davis Aviation offers engine upgrades for all Cessna 185 models, replacing the IO-470 F or IO-520 D with the 300 HP IO-550 D engine. This upgrade includes various propeller options, though early 185 models may need additional modifications.
Previously known as the “Bonaire 550,” this conversion enhances performance with shorter takeoff rolls, faster climb rates, and improved cruise speeds—continuing where Cessna left off in the 1980s. The higher horsepower engine paired with newer propellers offers significant value with minimal cost.
We offer a range of propeller options:
- Takeoff/Climb: Hartzell 80” Top Prop, McCauley Black Mac (80”–88”), and MT Propeller (82”).
- Cruise: Hartzell 78” Scimitar.
- Balanced Performance: Hartzell 3-blade Super Scimitar (80”–82”) and the 86” Hartzell Voyager.
The MT Propeller is 26 lbs lighter, improving useful load, while the 86” McCauley 228 (2-blade) is available for wheels-only configurations.
Most propellers are covered by our IO-550 STC, and other models can be installed via secondary STCs. If you’ve upgraded your propeller, provide the model number to confirm compatibility with our system.
